They were eager to explore the fidget toys, stuffed animals, and breathing visuals — and now, they use them every day to help manage their emotions. I knew it was going to be a hit with my students when, upon finishing the first chapter, I heard the students exclaim, \"That's so sad!\" in response to Grandpa falling ill with depression.\r\n\r\nThe class was then, and remained, fully invested in the fate of the three main characters of Stone Fox for the duration of the novel. The were eager to read chapters each day, and to discuss their thoughts about each one. Every student enjoyed this book, and that is something I can honestly say hasn't happened all year. There was always someone \"bored\" by a story until we opened this book.\r\n\r\nThe climax of the story, which I will avoid spoiling for you if you have not read the story yourself, was met with shock, some tears, and disbelief. It took my group a while to recover, and it was the first time many of them had been so affected by a story. Many students said they would read the book again. Many also have expressed a desire to purchase the book. My goal was to create a yearning to read. Thanks to you, I think I have accomplished this goal.","fullyFundedDate":1745421170560,"projectUrl":"project/building-stamina-with-chapter-books/9211416/","projectTitle":"Building Stamina with Chapter Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Charlton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1868308"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91762","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":510,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":29,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"21.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.9,"schoolId":91762,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Carrillo Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Carrillo Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/garden-grove-unified-school-district/leo-carrillo-elementary-school/91762"}
