When I first passed out the squishy fidgets for students to use while talking about Rosa Parks for the first time, their eyes lit up when they realized I had one for every student. They thought I would only let the person talking have one and that they would pass it around, which is a strategy I could use; however, listening in a new language is hard work, too. And hands that are busy squeezing help ground students in the moment. Students often ask for them whenever we have a talking assignment that doesn't require writing. I love their growing advocacy!\r\nI use the colorful oil/water \"timers\" for writing time. I invite students to try writing until all of the colors drip to the bottom, and I noticed some kept writing well beyond that. I also encouraged students to flip it when they need a break or feel stuck, and they seem to enjoy the structured freedom to take breaks independently, without having to wait for a whole class brain break. One day, I had enough for some students to take two, which they did with a smile.\r\nI put the balance boards out without formally introducing them (completely unintentionally!) and students used them in ways I didn't expect, but love! For example, one student takes one and puts it under his feet at his desk, regardless of the tasks ahead. He handles frustration better now, and I can't help but wonder if it's because he's more grounded physically in the space.\r\nThank you for bringing such joy to our classroom! I look forward to seeing the fidgets used for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1767132360752,"projectUrl":"project/wiggle-while-you-work/9880514/","projectTitle":"Wiggle While You Work!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6790264_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y32&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762536650023","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6790264"},{"teacherId":9697727,"projectId":9860811,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding my game collection for students. Your support and donation helped me create more engaging lessons that are based on proven research-based strategies. Some of the resources I was able to purchase have helped me create more authentic speaking practice for my students, especially with things like conversations. Speaking is the most difficult component of learning a language because it requires us to think on our feet and respond appropriately to what another person said. We have much less \"think time\" and have to process what we heard rather quickly then form our response in an equally short amount of time.\r\nI am looking forward to using these resources throughout the year and digging into them over the summer in order to create additional thoughtful and intentional lessons for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1759250170389,"projectUrl":"project/help-newcomer-students-learn-english/9753128/","projectTitle":"Help Newcomer Students Learn English","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gibson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4541304"},{"teacherId":9697727,"projectId":9583602,"letterContent":"Thank you for funding my ELD class with supplies.
