They were ecstatic for the Legos which a lot of students don't typically get to enjoy due to their cost. By using Legos they were able to build creations separately as well as collaboratively which sparked many conversations and creative builds. At one point I had a pair of students build a small neighborhood.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, there was some healthy competition that took place as well. With the cornhole and connect four sets the students were able to practice taking turns and using strategy to compete against their friends and other classmates. \r\n\r\nThe students report that it was nice to be able to get away from their computers and phones for a short while to enjoy each others' company.","fullyFundedDate":1768521947113,"projectUrl":"project/more-choices-for-choice-time/9794788/","projectTitle":"More Choices for Choice Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9613924_orig.jpg?crop=792,792,x336,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746159425534","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9613924"},{"teacherId":10081927,"projectId":9469954,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom project! Because of your generosity, my students now have access to hands-on learning materials such as manipulatives, LEGOs, and sensory squishies that make learning more engaging, meaningful, and fun.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were incredibly excited and couldn't wait to explore them. The manipulatives have been especially helpful during math lessons, allowing students to build numbers, solve problems, and better understand math concepts in a hands-on way. The LEGOs have encouraged creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving during our STEM and center activities, while the squishies have provided students with calming sensory support that helps them stay focused and regulated throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThese resources continue to make a positive impact in our classroom every day. As we move forward, students will use these materials during collaborative learning activities, small group instruction, and creative building challenges connected to our lessons. This text allows students to study character development, real world issues and their impacts, as well as new language and vocabulary in English and in Spanish. These are standards based skills as well as skills that help encourage students to WANT to read.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is done in a number of ways. As a class, I like to choral read which means students follow along with the teacher and repeat the part of the text I read. Sometimes, students volunteer to read pieces of the text. Other times, students are chosen by equity sticks to read. There are also times where students fill in the word I stop on as I read aloud. Many times there are small groups that read together and every day we have a 15 minute silent reading block.\r\n\r\nI have a total of 3 students who are reading Esperanza Rising on their own time and are enjoying the fact that the main character is relatable. They also enjoy that big pieces of the book are in Spanish which is their native language.
