Since we have been back in school for only a couple of weeks, I needed a few days to get everything organized and introduce the program to my students. Our \"For the Love of Reading\" contest officially began on Monday, September 28! I explained it to the class last week, and the students were very excited. Several have already finished multiple books and passed the required tests for them to count toward the contest. The books you donated are an important part of this effort, and we truly appreciate your generosity.\r\n\t Several of the books donated introduced new vocabulary as well as some new characters. This allows the students to practice predicting, summarizing, and identifying themes. Students are also learning how to monitor their own understanding—rereading when something is confusing, using context clues, and discussing character motivations. These are foundational skills that strengthen both fluency and confidence.\r\n\tReading time has quickly become one of the most joyful parts of our day. Students choose books that interest them, find a comfortable spot, and read independently. Many students are already eager to take the quizzes that allow their books to count toward the contest, and the room has a quiet, focused energy as they work toward their goals.\r\n\tSeveral students gravitated immediately toward the new titles and have already finished multiple books. Some are discovering genres they haven't tried before. A few students who were previously hesitant readers are now choosing to read during free time because they've found books that truly match their interests. Our classes uses crayon for daily activities for coloring, drawing, and other art and crafts projects. Our students appreciate that our crayons are sharp now because they like to color the detailed pictures and stay within their drawn lines. \r\nThe stamps and smelly stickers are motivational tools for teachers in the class. Students earn stamps and stickers for making good choices and positive behaviors. Our students love the smelly stickers with different scents.\r\nThe marble run is a fun addition to our current set. During free choice time, many students choose the marble run station to create and build for the marbles to \"run\". Thank you so much for allowing my students to see the importance of research writing and how it can be. They had several choices of what images to use to insert into their research projects. Many students had the same animals, but were required to lear different details about their animals and insert a picture that no one else had used.
