They were thrilled to see the colorful images in the National Geographic books, and couldn't believe all the new titles of the I Survived series. In addition, students were eager to choose from the new prizes. As a reading reward many students quickly chose the squishees and keychains, but the fan favorite was the emjoi ball. \r\n\r\nI truly believe that by having access to new nonfiction books many students have been motivated to read more. Their energy for reading is at an all-time high! I was able to connect our last essay with the I Survived Series. Students were asked to write an a first-hand account narrative where they experienced an earthquake or a volcanic eruption. We received the new I Survived books during the planning of their essays and I read a few excerpts to spark their interest. Honestly the new books inspired them to write some fantastic stories. Overall, this funded project made more of an impact than I could have ever anticipated.
