My students were so excited to have new choices to explore, and it has been wonderful watching them find books that truly interest them. These books are helping us practice important third-grade reading skills like identifying main ideas and details, making inferences, understanding cause and effect, learning new vocabulary, and using evidence from the text to explain our thinking.\r\n\r\nReading is a part of our classroom every day, whether we are reading together, working with a partner, or enjoying a book independently. One of my favorite things to see is students sharing books with each other, recommending a favorite, or getting excited when they discover a book they don't want to put down. Having more books to choose from has been especially meaningful for students who are still figuring out what kind of readers they are and what gets them excited about reading.\r\n\r\nYour generosity gave my students more than just new books—it gave them new stories to enjoy, new things to learn about, and more opportunities to grow as readers. Seeing a third grader excitedly pick up a book because they chose it themselves is such a special thing. The Scholastic News Articles, are a tangible resource that we enjoy each week, and then the students take home to share with their families.\r\n\r\nNot all families can afford books, so they are always excited to take ownership of these articles. My students love to find sight words as we read. The program comes with a short video, vocabulary instruction, games, songs and extension activities that we can do together.
