These new texts help students develop essential reading skills like making connections between texts and their own lives, analyzing characters from diverse backgrounds, and discussing complex themes such as identity, belonging, and empathy. Students are practicing close reading, vocabulary growth, and thoughtful discussion—but they're also learning how to listen to one another, value different perspectives, and see stories as windows into other lives and mirrors of their own. Because the books are engaging and relevant, students are more willing to take risks as readers and push themselves to think more deeply.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. You'll see students curled up with books during independent reading, recommending titles to friends, and talking excitedly about characters during small-group discussions. Some students who were previously reluctant readers are now among the most enthusiastic—especially those who finally see themselves represented on the page or discover genres they didn't know they loved. Other students are drawn to learning about experiences different from their own, which has sparked meaningful conversations and stronger classroom connections. Your donation didn't just add books to our shelves; it helped create a space where every student feels seen, valued, and excited to read.","fullyFundedDate":1760163353977,"projectUrl":"project/mirrors-and-windows-in-our-classroom-lib/9577863/","projectTitle":"Mirrors and Windows in our Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ady","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6585819_orig.jpg?crop=1753,1753,x574,y947&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754961613255","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ady"},{"teacherId":631115,"projectId":9121727,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations to our Foundational Learning Skills class! On behalf of my students and myself, I want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support. Thanks to your kindness, we now have a library on campus.\r\n\r\nSome students on campus are excited because they know what a Little Library is and others are still unsure because they have never seen one; however both are positive experiences because it is exposing them to literature and a library. We have ran out of books several times and had to refill it. \r\n\r\nWith these resources, we have been able to build excitement around literature. For example, students visit the library often to check for new books and literature focused on monthly themes. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to continue building on this push towards improving literacy. Our next steps include promoting the library, encouraging teachers to take their class to visit them, and finding a partner to help us replenish our libraries. Your generosity has truly opened new experiences for them and I am excited to see their relationships flourish. \r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your kindness and generosity.
