We have been working on an architecture project for Physics class that has incorporated some art class as well. They got to design their own 3D model of a structure and then create a scale model of it using the supplies. After that, we labeled the structures with different forces (normal force, compression, etc) and students reflected on the ways a structure requires supports to ensure its stability. \r\n\r\nGetting a chance to practice engineering in such a hands on way and experience the application of the physics content was highly engaging for the students. While the project was not a competition they soon became alive with trying to create the most fun or best designed structure. Some students relied on visions of their dream house, while others invoked childhood memories like the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
