My heart melted. We use the kitchen during free play time, as well as, during group activities. \r\n\r\nWe have used the kitchen in a variety of ways. We have used it for simply playing and exploring. Many of my students have to help prepare meals in their own household. As well as, sometimes preparing things alone. We first discussed safety in and cleanliness, before we began to use the kitchen. We talked about washing our hands, fruits and vegetables, and even making healthy food choices. We also use the kitchen as part of our writing center/activities. Students have to make a list of ingredients they will need to cook a dish/meal, before cooking and then writing down the steps to prepare their dish/meal. They love to collaborate on what they will cook and who will be responsible for making certain parts of the meal. One activity that we used the table for is, students used the letter tile manipulatives to learn how to properly form letters and some are writing CVC words. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when I first showed them and introduced them to the Light Table and manipulatives. We used our sensory table to learn about play and learning through touch. Each part of the table has various textures, items and tools that students use to manipulate. We learned how we can learn through the various senses such as touch. One project that each student was able to participate in, was during Small Group time, each group had the opportunity to go through each bin on the table and hunt for letters that were buried in the various items in the bins. After finding the letters, students had to write the letter. When they were finished finding all of the letters, they had to write a sentence about which textured bin they felt was the most interesting to them. Many students had never touched sand before and the translucent beads were many students favorite.\r\nWhen my students first saw the Sensory Table and all of the different things that it was filled with, they were so excited. Before actually using the table, we talked about the importance of using the items properly. We talked about how the Sensory Table and manipulatives, were not only to be used for play, but also to learn. Before filling the bins on the table with things other than the sand, translucent beads, etc, we went through and just touched and felt all of the various textures. We talked with one another about how it felt, what it reminded us of, and how we may be able to compare it to something else we may have felt similar. We will now begin using our Sensory table to hunt for and form and write sight words. My students are so excited to see all of the new things that may be in the sensory bin next time I change/switch it out.","fullyFundedDate":1731940505165,"projectUrl":"project/discover-and-learn-through-touch/8785279/","projectTitle":"Discover and Learn Through Touch","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Blincoe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8571780_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726429400078","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-blincoe-gragg"},{"teacherId":5413880,"projectId":8769579,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation that made it possible for our classroom to have a sensory bin!
