My students were thrilled to receive the art supplies and got straight to work with them. \r\n\r\nTheir first project was to create a 1-page synthesis with everything they had learned from their study and research of natural disasters. They each chose 1 natural disaster to demonstrate. They loved using the materials and learned so much by having to display all of their knowledge in a creative manner. \r\n\r\nThe second project, which we are just finishing now, was to fully research a planet or planetary object, and then to create a full-color poster with all of their information displayed creatively. \r\n\r\nIt's projects like these that make learning more meaningful to kids, giving them learning experiences that broaden their thinking and instill unforgettable lessons. These materials are already being used for daily writing, reading responses, and grammar practice. Having a consistent supply of paper and pencils has allowed lessons to proceed without interruption, especially as our classroom technology becomes less reliable. What might seem like simple materials have become essential tools for maintaining structure and continuity in our work.\r\n\r\nI am especially grateful for the sense of stability these supplies provide. Instead of spending time trying to work around shortages or adjust plans, I am able to focus fully on serving our students. These resources have made it possible to continue teaching in a clear and consistent way, ensuring that students can engage with the material and complete their work as intended.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these supplies will continue to support our writing and reading work as we continue to engage in the English Language Arts. Your support has directly contributed to sustaining a productive learning environment, and I am truly thankful for the role you have played in making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1773766052627,"projectUrl":"project/paper-and-pencils-the-tools-needed-to/10148609/","projectTitle":"Paper and Pencils: The Tools Needed to Keep Students Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Sheffield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8153761_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x510,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1713207384633","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8153761"},{"teacherId":10294321,"projectId":9776315,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of 3D printing filament to our students. They've been reading together in small book groups. As a result of their small group reading, they've been able to not only read in Spanish, but also discuss and interact with the books in Spanish! \r\n\r\nBefore receiving your gift, we didn't have multiple copies of books, students were not previously able to read the same book together previously. They do so enjoy reading in Spanish and using all of the reading skills we've been practicing in English - connecting, summarizing, questioning, visualizing, and inferring. Having these novels to practice these skills in Spanish has sharpened their vocabulary, their understanding of what they read, as well as their Spanish language writing skills.\r\n\r\nSome quotes from students include: \r\n\"I was able to expand my Spanish vocabulary by reading our book.\"\r\n\"All of the skills I learned about reading in English work in Spanish, too.\"\r\n\"I love getting to talk to my friends about books in Spanish! It's like using a secret language.\"\r\n\r\nAs a part of their book project, most have chosen to create a slide presentation that summarizes their book; I will be including copies of a few slides to show you their work.\r\n\r\nAs you can see, the students are really getting a great deal out of your donations. It's exciting and gratifying to see the pleasure my students have gotten out of reading novels in Spanish. We encourage students to make good choices, and with the introduction of books that are easier for them to read and engage with, they choose every day to immerse themselves in these stories. The Study Hall period has never been quieter--making for an ideal environment for students to focus on their work, projects, or reading. Each day they enter the classroom, find their book(s) and a comfortable place to sit, and I get to watch them flip through these books eager to find out what happens next.\r\n\r\nIt has helped immensely to have these books available in the classroom. Students interested in sports have picked up the novels about their interests (soccer, basketball, football), and students struggling with their identity have found books they can connect with.
