All students go to the whiteboard in small groups and work on math problems. This makes it easier for them to take chances with math knowledge because there is less chance of embarrassment. Having lots of dry erase markers makes that possible. Your donation has made it possible to purchase 20 calculators for my 7th grade SDC math class which the students use on a daily basis. SDC (Special Day Class) students have moderate learning disabilities and receive more adult support in smaller classes to help them in math. Calculators have a positive impact on students because they allow students to focus on the new math concepts they are learning rather than getting bogged down on making basic arithmetic calculations. Since our new school policy forbids students to have cell phones visible on campus (a hugely helpful policy), they cannot use their cell phone calculators. It is greatly appreciated. In the today's age where phones and video games dominate the attention of our students, it can be difficult to get them interested in reading. The graphic novels you have so generously provided go a long way to grabbing the attention of our kids and getting them hooked on reading. Often times, a student who thought they did not like reading find out they love to read once they discover something that interests them.
