These tools have allowed our 5th and 6th grade students to participate in hands-on learning experiences that they would not have had otherwise. One of the first projects we completed with the new equipment was making smoothies and mixing simple batter for baked goods. Students took turns measuring ingredients, blending fruits, and watching how the mixer combined ingredients smoothly. It was a great opportunity for them to practice teamwork, follow step-by-step instructions, and learn basic kitchen skills. Students also made guacamole that they shared with all staff members. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the mixer and blender, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. Many of them had never used kitchen appliances like these before, so they were eager to learn how they worked. They asked questions about the different speeds, safety rules, and what kinds of recipes we could make. Seeing their enthusiasm made the experience even more meaningful, especially knowing that many of our students come from low-income households and may not have access to these tools at home.\r\n\r\nNext, our class will continue building on these skills by exploring new recipes and learning more about nutrition and food preparation. Students will practice measuring, mixing, and blending ingredients while working together in small groups. We are also planning simple cooking projects such as healthy snacks and basic baked items so students can gain confidence in the kitchen. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our students now have the opportunity to learn practical life skills that they can carry with them beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1767211124197,"projectUrl":"project/power-in-the-mix-teaching-kids-to-cook/9687800/","projectTitle":"Power in the Mix: Teaching Kids to Cook","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Coots","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9777760"},{"teacherId":10066495,"projectId":9562346,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting this \"Good Vibes Only\" project! This project has already had a meaningful impact on our students, and we are truly grateful for your generosity.\r\n\r\nThe Freshen Up Cart is placed in student bathrooms each morning and provides essential hygiene items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, combs, face wipes, and more. These items allow students to quietly freshen up before the school day begins, helping them feel more confident and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWhen students first learned about the cart, many expressed excitement and relief. It quickly became clear that this project was meeting a real need. Students appreciate having access to these items in a way that preserves privacy and dignity, and they treat the cart with care and respect.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue managing and maintaining the Freshen Up Cart as part of their EAST work by tracking supplies and planning restocks.
