Your donation has made a tremendous difference for my students, many of whom have significant learning, communication, developmental, and sensory needs.\r\n\r\nIn my CBI classroom, hands-on learning is essential. Many of my students are working on foundational academic skills while also developing communication, fine motor, sensory regulation, and independence. Thanks to your generosity, we now have materials that allow us to work on several of these important skills at the same time!\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were excited to explore everything! We have been using sensory bins, kinetic sand, construction vehicles, and colorful sorting materials to create engaging learning experiences. One of their favorite activities has been using construction vehicles to scoop, dig, roll, and move kinetic sand. While they are having fun, they are also developing hand strength, coordination, motor planning, and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nWe have also been using colorful sensory balls and sorting bowls to practice color recognition, matching, sorting, and counting. Students use tools to pick up and transfer the balls, which helps strengthen their grasp, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor control.\r\n\r\nWhat makes these resources especially valuable is that they support academics, occupational therapy (OT)-related skills, and sensory development all in one activity! Many of my students benefit from sensory experiences and activities that build skills commonly addressed in occupational therapy. These materials give us opportunities to practice grasping, manipulating objects, bilateral coordination, sensory exploration, and self-regulation throughout the school day. They also allow us to reinforce OT-related goals and strategies during classroom instruction.\r\n\r\nFor my students who are nonverbal or require significant support, these activities also create opportunities to practice communication, make choices, follow simple directions, take turns, and participate more independently.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue incorporating these resources into our daily CBI lessons, sensory activities, and fine motor skill development. We plan to expand our activities to include counting, patterns, sorting by attributes, following multistep directions, and increasing independence with classroom tasks.\r\n\r\nEvery small accomplishment is a big victory in our CBI classroom! Something as simple as picking up an object, sorting a color correctly, using a tool independently, or remaining engaged in an activity can represent tremendous progress for my students.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has provided so much more than classroom supplies. This has been the most successful project we've had at our school. Having a supportive community behind us makes all the difference in how our students view education. Reading is a struggle for so many of them so having a little something to make that task more enjoyable is just what the doctor ordered. \r\n\r\nStudents are always excited when we introduce the cafe for the upcoming school year and can't wait to start earning their stars to shop. Having snacks to nibble on while enjoying a good book is a great way to create positive core memories surrounding reading that they will never forget.\r\n\r\nWe hope to start Nip, Sip, and Read baby Read Round 5 for the upcoming school year! The Clorox wipes help us maintain a clean and healthy learning environment, while the snacks keep students energized and focused throughout the day.\r\n\r\nThe soft seats have quickly become a favorite spot for reading and small group activities, creating a cozy and inviting space for learning. The dry-erase markers are used daily, allowing students to actively participate in lessons and build their confidence as they practice new skills. Your kindness and generosity have not only provided supplies but have also shown my students that others care about their learning and well-being.
