Students use headphones to listen to EdPuzzle videos (educational assignments) or relaxing music while they work; I use a variety of dry erase markers to write the day's agenda on my class whiteboards, while students have taken a liking to writing math problems on their desks with the markers; and, of course, the construction paper and color pencils bring life to otherwise black and white graphic organizers. \r\nMost recently, my students used the new personal white boards and cute dry erasers for a math review game I did with them to close out a unit on constants and proportionality. Each table group had to write their group's answers to given math questions on the white boards. All white boards had to be held up for all in class to see by the end of a timed question. The kids loved this gamefied math review, and one student even asked me if we could play the game again for our next unit review. I'm happy to say that this is possible because the resources are here! \r\nAt the beginning of the year, I brought construction paper and colored pencils from my own home for students to use on a simple ice breaker, but now, I have more than enough construction paper and pencils to go around, as was the case when my classes got to bring their imaginations to life for an equivalent ratio project. \r\nAt this moment in the learning segment, a few of my classes are in the process of completing graphic organizers for a unit on percent increases and decreases, and another class is creating graphic organizers for two-step equations. We do not need to fish through supply closets for color pencils or wonder if we have enough greens or reds. Thanks to your generous donations, we're able to add a little bit more life and creativity to math. \r\n\r\nYour kindness has impacted my classroom more than you'll ever know.","fullyFundedDate":1757423347819,"projectUrl":"project/math-basics/9401493/","projectTitle":"Math Basics!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Winkler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10049844_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x180,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749262044621","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10049844"},{"teacherId":9923296,"projectId":9113113,"letterContent":"This has been a blessing to our group. We don't meet everyday but the opportunities we've had to meet this year have been that much more enjoyable. Your donations made this all possible. \r\n\r\nWe get to meet weekly and have dealt with some schedule conflicts early in the year. These notebooks serve multiple purposes: students take notes, doodle, and keep each unit organized. They have proven to be excellent tools for helping students study and prepare for tests. In the photos I'm sharing, you'll see that we began with Maps and Map Elements. Next, we will explore Early Humans, followed by Mesopotamia.\r\n\r\nThe students' response to the materials has been wonderful—they were genuinely excited. One student even asked if all these resources were truly free for him to use!\r\nWe will soon start our unit on Early Humans. The materials are perfect for writing vocabulary words, organizing Jigsaw activities where groups share their learning with peers, and providing a space for students to record notes and doodles they want to remember—all in one place.\r\n\r\nThank you very much for supporting a more hands-on and engaging learning environment for my students. This is a first at Gentry Middle School, and certainly a book collection that I'd like to grow in the years to come. Already, my students are spending their down time in our reading nook and perusing the math books, which is what I originally envisioned for this project. The kids see this kind gesture as another way that they can be proud of their school, knowing that someone thought enough of them to give something without conditions. \r\nThis reading nook has also become a 'relaxation corner' and a 'reward' spot. And the students are quite competitive about having the opportunity to sit in the class' reading corner! I'm thrilled to see them delving into math in a novel way, and actually learning--even though the kids might not realize that they're learning. Book topics like decimals, real world applications of math, math anxieties, and fun math riddles are engaging for their growing minds. Even ELLs who may struggle with language barriers or low-level readers are engaged through the colorful illustrations and kid-friendly aesthetic. \r\nI can't say enough about how the whole school will be positively impacted for years to come.
