I remember loving to read as a child (as I still do) and for the population of students I have, reading is just as important if not more. I have a special education self-contained classroom. Children with disabilities tend to have an even harder struggle with reading. Many of my students are reading on a kindergarten-2nd grade level so I asked for beginner books. I also requested beginner chapter books. If I can get these students to read lower level books on their own, I can read the chapter books to them aloud and if I do anything right as a teacher, I hope to open their eyes to a better imagination in reading.\r\nI wanted to have a space that is relaxing. Not only for reading but a calming place students can sit/lay, maybe look at books, listen to me read to them, or simply get a break from the anxieties they experience from their lives. Not only do my students have disabilities, they also for the most part come from a less fortunate family life. As a teacher, I am not rich by no means but being able to provide these books and this space has been a dream come true. \r\nI had some students come to open house and transition day and they were so excited to see the reading nook that was made possible by donors like you!
