The spiral book maker has been a game-changer, simplifying the process of organizing materials and allowing me to spend more time supporting my students. Instead of dedicating so much time to preparing worksheets and handouts, I can now focus on providing more individualized attention and creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences.\r\n\r\nOne specific project that has been particularly successful involved a sensory-based research activity. My students were able to choose a topic related to animals and research it through pictures, videos, and simple texts. Using the spiral book maker, they then created their own personalized booklets, which included pictures of the animals, key facts, and their own drawings. The process of choosing their favorite animals, learning about them, and then assembling their booklets with the help of visuals and hands-on activities was incredibly engaging for them. The final booklets were something they could hold, flip through, and be proud of—a tangible reminder of their hard work and creativity.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity. They were thrilled to see how easy it was to create their own booklets and were eager to get started. Many of my students find it challenging to express themselves verbally, but the spiral booklets gave them a way to communicate their learning in a visual, tangible form. They loved being able to put their work together in a way that was meaningful to them. The materials were not only helpful but also empowering, as it gave them a sense of independence in their learning process.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps for my students involve continuing to build on their work with the booklets. After completing their individual projects, they will now have the opportunity to share their booklets with the class, using simple sentences and pictures to explain what they've learned. This gives them a chance to practice communication skills in a supportive environment while reinforcing their understanding of the material. They'll also receive feedback from their peers, allowing them to celebrate each other's progress and learn from one another. It's important to make these projects accessible and enjoyable for them, so we'll incorporate plenty of visuals, hands-on activities, and peer support throughout.\r\n\r\nBeyond the project itself, the new materials have helped my students stay more organized and engaged in their daily learning. The spiral booklets are now used for a variety of activities, from journaling about their emotions and daily experiences to tracking their progress on different tasks. These tools have helped them develop a stronger sense of responsibility for their own learning. The act of putting together their booklets allows them to express themselves creatively and work at their own pace, which is incredibly valuable for students with intellectual disabilities.\r\n\r\nThanks to the donors who made these resources possible, my students are more excited and motivated than ever before. These materials have provided them with a way to engage in learning that is hands-on, visual, and individualized to meet their needs. It's wonderful to see how much progress they've made, and I'm looking forward to seeing them continue to thrive with these new resources. We're grateful for the chance to create meaningful learning experiences, and the booklets have truly been a valuable tool in their educational journey.","fullyFundedDate":1734326536805,"projectUrl":"project/building-safe-spaces/8947372/","projectTitle":"Building Safe Spaces","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Douglas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7386325_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716218970168","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7386325"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_130672","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":380,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"4 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":130672,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Clarksville Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Clarksville Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/clarksville-school-district-17/clarksville-intermediate-school/130672"}
