We read the book I Survived the Destruction of Pompeii AD 79 after studying about ancient Roman history. Several of the topics that we learned were mentioned in the book such as social status, art works (mosaics in particular, Roman gods, and the city structure. The book gave them another source about the topic. The students were able to choose a project to complete for their assessment of the book. Their choices included: create a mosaic, create a diorama with a plot development card, write a short story set in the same time period, create a slide show about ancient Roman Life, Pompeii, or Roman gods/hero's mentioned in the book, or a comic strip summary of the book.
