Activities such as the games Lamboozled and Unpacking Fake News will give students opportunities to analyze the information they see online and in the news while learning how to recognize misinformation and evaluate sources. At the same time, the iCivics readers and Scholastic civics books will make topics like government, elections, and taxes easier for students to understand and connect to real-world situations. Books such as A Kids Book About Voting and Just Help! will also encourage students to think about civic engagement, kindness, and how individual actions can positively impact their communities.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the books and activities, the inspirational posters and wall art will help create a classroom environment that reflects the values of curiosity, responsibility, leadership, and thoughtful decision-making. The new books about becoming a veterinarian and the skeletal systems of large livestock have also helped them connect what they're learning in class to real-world careers.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been seeing the tiny details up close — it's a whole new world for them! They've enjoyed comparing what they see under the microscope to the diagrams and pictures in the books. For many, it's the first time they've been able to visualize the kind of work that happens in a veterinary clinic.\r\n\r\nA few students have especially taken to the new materials, spending extra time after class looking through the slides and reading about animal anatomy. It's been wonderful to watch their curiosity grow as they imagine future careers in veterinary science. It's been amazing to see how this helps them create more realistic and inclusive makeup looks while learning new techniques. The classroom feels even more creative and welcoming now that everyone sees themselves represented in our materials.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new supplies, they were so excited! Many said how cool it was to finally have materials that show different skin tones and hair textures. They also realized that this means more students will get a chance to do the cosmetology module — something they've really been looking forward to. The energy and smiles in the room said it all!\r\n\r\nNext up, students will be working on full makeover projects where they'll design hair, makeup, and nail looks for a variety of clients. They'll get to show off their work in a small \"portfolio showcase\" and talk about what they've learned about diversity in the beauty industry.
