The books we got accompany the seating and provides encouragement to continue reading for pleasure when their daily work is completed. It mostly attracts more quiet students and they use the little table to create their workspace. \r\n\r\nIn another of my classes, it is used daily by small groups to collaborate on projects or provides a much needed respite from the noise in the classroom. They love it because no other classroom has a designated nook with alternative seating.\r\n\r\nThe addition of the whiteboard provides space to display student-made graphic organizers. In addition it provides a set location for daily learning targets and success criteria so students know where to expect those. The phenomenal whiteboard also provides space for holding the pockets for cell-phone turn-ins at the start of class. Due to the small amount of whiteboard and display spaces in our classroom, this mobile white board can be moved to the nook and also used in front of the classroom.\r\n\r\nMy students were mind blown to have the extra seating they can choose and the whiteboard impressed them because no other classroom has anything like it and they seemed to feel very special.\r\n\r\nThe lamp is a daylight lamp that provides a sunlight-like experience with sun-like benefits. It works in the reading nook to provide lighting and mood benefits.\r\n\r\nThese three special classroom features makes our high school classroom stand-out as the comfort capital of the department and our school and attracts students from other classrooms during free periods.\r\n\r\nGoing forward we are building our library with the addition of more books that give students choices of what to read. It will also be used as we go forward with more small group readings assignments.\r\n\r\nThey are very grateful to have these donated items and expressed such when the gifts arrived. We have integrated them seamlessly into our projects and daily use. \r\n\r\nMy classroom serves an under-represented population of English-language learners and unaccompanied minors, as well as refugees. I know the special things in our classroom enhance the safe feeling for these disenfranchised students. That's the biggest impact you have made for them.","fullyFundedDate":1761843962801,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-is-literally-in-reach/9741512/","projectTitle":"Literacy is Literally in Reach!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lyons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10170595_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758510226766","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10170595"},{"teacherId":10093722,"projectId":9500652,"letterContent":"Crafting at Catalina has been going swimmingly! Students would share their crafting interests and desires, much of which I was able to obtain materials for, thanks to you all!\r\n\r\nWe have been meeting consistently for over a month now, and students have been able to learn the foundations of crochet, make funky keyrings, beaded friendship bracelets, and hone in on their drawing skills. Each time we meet, the atmosphere buzzes with creativity, laughter, and a sense of belonging. It has been such a pleasure to offer these practices to the students at Catalina.
