Being able to practice literacy and math skills daily, without interruptions, has benefited our scholars greatly! \r\n Our state test scores are good, our end of year benchmarks are great! That's because of the charging station. We were and are able to focus and get more quality time learning and applying what we learned. Our Google docs collaboration with various types of essays got better because every scholar was able to contribute their ideas. It has been a wonderful experience!\r\n When we received the product, it came unassembled. I was concerned because I don't know how to assemble some something of its magnitude. Luckily, our school's custodian assembled it. So at first the scholars were not as impressed because they couldn't see it. But when it came back to our class assembled, the class was so excited! Some even voiced their gratitude in that they were so glad not to have the tangled mess of cords everywhere! They were excites to be able to store their Chromebooks over night or during the day without them being all over the room along the walls. Music teacher, Ms. Cromwell posts a rhythm on the board. The instruction? Explore how to play that rhythm using the volume of piano—softly, gently. What follows is a moment of beautiful chaos—contained, but electric. Students begin experimenting, tapping the tambourine with fingertips, palms, or gently shaking it to find just the right way to match the musical dynamic. They compare, they question, they adjust. There is collaboration. There is laughter. There is learning.\r\nWhen the timer rings, all sound stops. In that silence, little hands go up. Students take turns demonstrating what they tried. They share what worked, what didn't, and how their approach changed during the minute of exploration. Then, the challenge shifts. What if the dynamic was changed to mezzo piano—a bit louder? A second round begins. New strategies emerge. New peer discussions form. But more than that, they are growing in confidence, collaboration, and creativity.\r\n\r\nHaving an instrument in each student's hand transforms the learning experience. It's no longer just theory on a page. The rhythm becomes real, tangible, and fun. Students become eager to read notation, motivated by the joy of bringing the notes to life with their own hands.\r\n\r\nWe are also intentional in guiding students to build positive social habits through music. They assess each other's playing with kindness, encourage improvement, and celebrate effort. These moments of peer feedback help develop both musical and interpersonal skills—empathy, patience, and support for one another. The benefits continue well beyond first grade. Just last week, our second and third graders wrapped up class with a rhythm reading activity set to an upbeat Cumbia audio track. Each child followed along with their instrument, practicing timing, focus, and ensemble skills. When the music stopped, the room erupted in the joyful cry of \"AGAIN!\" And yes—they got to play it again.\r\n\r\nThis kind of excitement doesn't come from worksheets.
