Your generosity has already made such a meaningful difference in how I am able to connect with students throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nWith your support, I was able to add a mini fridge, snacks, and fidget toys to my counseling office. While these items may seem simple, they have quickly become valuable tools for building relationships with students and creating an environment where they feel safe coming in for support.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have been an especially big hit! High school students have busy days, and sometimes a student walks into my office having skipped breakfast, forgotten lunch, or simply needing something small to help them get through the rest of the day. Being able to offer them a snack gives me an immediate opportunity to meet a basic need while also showing them that my office is a place where they are cared for. The mini fridge allows me to keep additional items available and makes the counseling space feel even more welcoming.\r\n\r\nMy students were genuinely excited when they first saw everything. Of course, the snacks immediately caught their attention, but I have also loved seeing students naturally gravitate toward the fidget toys. Students will pick one up while sitting in my office and use it while we talk. For some students, having something to do with their hands makes it easier to open up, regulate their emotions, or simply feel less uncomfortable during a conversation.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things about these resources is that they support both the serious and everyday moments of school counseling. Sometimes a student comes in because they are overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, or having a difficult day. Other times, they stop by to ask a question about their transcript, college applications, graduation requirements, or something happening at school. No matter the reason, I want students to know that they have a space where they can take a moment, reset, and receive support.\r\n\r\nThese resources are also helping me continue building a counseling program that focuses on the whole student. Academic achievement and college and career readiness are incredibly important, but students also need to feel connected, supported, and comfortable asking for help. Sometimes that relationship begins with something as small as choosing a snack or sitting down with a fidget toy while we talk.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I will continue using these materials during individual counseling sessions, student check-ins, academic and college planning conversations, and moments when students simply need a safe place to decompress. My goal is to continue strengthening relationships with students so they feel comfortable accessing counseling services before a small concern becomes a larger one.\r\n\r\nAs our school year continues, students will be working through academic planning, college and career exploration, social-emotional learning, and preparing for their next steps after high school. These resources will continue to be part of the welcoming environment where many of those conversations happen.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and our counseling program. The whiteboard, markers, college pennants, folders, and postsecondary planning guides have transformed the space into a place where students can collaborate, organize their plans, and feel inspired about the opportunities ahead.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were excited to see a space dedicated specifically to their future goals. The college pennants helped spark conversations about different schools and pathways, while the planning guides and folders gave students a tangible way to organize important information about colleges, careers, scholarships, and next steps. One of the most rewarding moments has been watching students use the space to ask questions, share their goals, and encourage one another as they begin thinking about life after high school.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue using the College and Career Resource Center during individual counseling meetings, college and career lessons, scholarship exploration, and postsecondary planning activities. Students were grateful to have a safe and discreet place to access items they may need throughout the school day. Something as simple as having access to personal care supplies can have a huge impact on a student's confidence, attendance, and ability to focus in class.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue making these resources available to students throughout the school year. The book's reminder that plants and animals are \"our oldest teachers\" has encouraged students to think deeply about their place in the living world.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a dynamic, hands-on experience. Literature now serves as the spark that leads students into scientific inquiry and real-world application. \r\n\r\nAfter reading Braiding Sweetgrass, we extended our learning into the study of vermiculture—the use of worms to enrich soil—and even visited our local worm farm--and, no, I didn't even know about it before this adventure. It was a blast! \r\n\r\nStudents were thrilled to purchase worms of their own and establish a thriving vermiculture system in our garden tower.\r\n\r\nOur exploration didn't stop there. Inspired by Indigenous agricultural traditions discussed in the book, students planted the \"Three Sisters\" crop in our garden. This experience allowed them to see firsthand how corn, beans, and squash grow in harmony and support one another, reinforcing the themes of interdependence and stewardship found in the text.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your generosity has not only supported literacy, but has also helped awaken my students' ecological consciousness through literature, science, and hands-on discovery.
