Now, thanks to your generous donation, we have games, books, and even a tortilla press. Students can play games and use authentic tools to learn about Spanish, not just worksheets. One thing I have done is institute Game Fridays using the Spanish-language games donated for the project. We play games to learn colors, numbers, and even cultural information. Last Friday we invited the EL class from across the hall to play games with us, and those students helped my students with their Spanish.\r\n One thing my students were very excited about was the Mexico-opoly game. They love playing the familiar game of Monopoly while learning new cultural information about Mexico. \r\n I have included photos of my students playing another fun game; loteria. We use a token economy system where students earn \"classroom money\" for positive behaviors, completing work, and meeting goals. They are then able to save and spend their money on different rewards and prizes. This system has become such a meaningful learning experience because students are not only motivated and excited, but they are also learning important life skills like saving, budgeting, decision-making, and basic math skills. It has been amazing to watch them practice patience and work toward items they really want.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw all of the new materials, they were beyond excited! They immediately started asking questions about how they could earn money and what rewards they could save up for. The excitement and engagement in the classroom was incredible. One of the biggest hits has been the sensory swing. Students absolutely love spending time on it, and it has quickly become a favorite classroom resource. It has provided students with a calming and regulating space that helps support their learning throughout the day.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we plan to continue using our token economy system next year because it has been such a positive and successful part of our classroom. The students truly enjoy it, and it creates opportunities to reinforce academic skills while also teaching important real-world life skills. We will continue using the rewards and classroom resources to encourage student growth, motivation, and positive behaviors.
