A majority of my students have never been bowling before so they were super excited for the bowling lesson to begin. When I had to explain how to hold the bowling ball and how to actually perform the motions of bowling I was pleasantly surprised to see that almost all of my students were actively listening to my instructions and directions. \r\n\r\nEach of the students were put into groups of students that got to bowl and half would reset the pins after each turn. What I loved was that my students were supporting each other when it wasn't their turn to bowl. It was very clear that some of the students who have never bowled because of their \"performance\" when it was their turn; and the classmates would give them positive reinforcement. I was teaching the skeletal and muscular system and they were engaged and enthusiastic the entire time! I had created a worksheet that required them to list missing bones and muscles on a body and they needed to use the skeleton and muscle man in order to complete the assignment. \r\n\r\nThey wanted to do the assignment on their own with none of my help and that made me feel really confident in their desire to learn because they had a resource that was interesting and fun to use. We finished up our projects today by adding the adhesive gems for Christmas lights onto the trees. The students had a fun time working and creating their projects. They showed perseverance when trying to get the colored papers to lay the way they wanted to and teamwork while working together to help each other glue down the colored paper or cut them into snowflakes. One student even remarked that our forest was pretty with all the jewels and lights. Projects like this are my favorite to do during this time of year because it hopefully will become a core memory for these kids as they grow up. Who knows, maybe they will keep their trees until they are adults and show them to their own kids. \r\n\r\nThis wouldn't be possible if not for donors like yourselves. They loved sharing their creatures with the class, explaining how they worked, and asking classmates for feedback.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled to have supplies they could use every day. Pencils and erasers let them try ideas and fix mistakes easily. Markers gave them a way to show their thinking clearly and make their work colorful. They were also very engaged during the activity and loved the coloring aspect of the directions. With our supply of paper safely put away for use when we need it, my students will be very engaged in their reviews and practices from now until (hopefully) the end of the school year.
