Having a class set of hardcover dictionaries geared toward grade level will open up a world of words to teaching Jr. High students the dictionary skills needed. With limited access to dictionaries, meaningful class activities incorporating dictionaries often result in some frustration because our resources are so limited in the efforts to expand their vocabulary, make connections with parts of speech and word usage, and help them spell with precision. It would thrill my current students and future students to be able to have a class set of dictionaries that will enable them to dig deeper and expand their world of words in ways that cannot be reached without a dictionary in their hands.
