The wind didn't cooperate for my students to be able to learn how to start a fire using the firestarters and tinder, but they did get to practice using the fire starters and creating sparks. That hands on experience was really fun for them. We talked a lot about fire safety and the responsibility involved with starting a fire. With the massive wild fires in Southern California this year, it was more important than ever to make sure they understood how much they needed to respect fire, and how it is a survival tool and not something to play around with.\r\n\r\nMy students also enjoyed learning how to use the compasses we purchased. They definitely enjoyed navigating the field, and finding what direction different landmarks were at school.\r\n\r\nThey were most excited to use the binoculars and bird field guides. We were able to use them on campus to spot a lot of birds and look at further away objects through them. However, the most magic happened on the hike. They were able to spot so many birds, and really get to see details and have a pretty incredible experience on our hike. We spent a lot of time stopping, listening and looking for birds. We also were able to use them to spot deer just off the trail as well.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your donations! They really enhanced our annual hike, and I look forward to using them even more next year!","fullyFundedDate":1737572875970,"projectUrl":"project/hiking-madera-canyon/9060673/","projectTitle":"Hiking Madera Canyon","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8655506"},{"teacherId":9813814,"projectId":8899255,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations!
