We know that picture books lead us to other worlds, give us new perspectives, and help us use our imagination. But sometimes that's where good stories end. Students enjoy them or learn a lesson but they don't see themselves in those stories. \r\n\r\nThis year, with the support of with these culturally inclusive books-many that focus their storytelling on Southeast Alaska-have inspired student's storytelling of their own. From picking berries, or seeing bears, fishing from the shore, or having a forest picnic. Students were able to spark memories with their families, or create realistic stories based on the books we read. And they were stories they loved to write and share!
