My name is Bobbi VanDruff, and I am a dedicated teacher in a small village in Alaska, a place where resources are limited and the needs of my students are often great. I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to my \"Fuel for Learning\" project. Your support has made a significant impact on the lives of my 11 students, providing them with healthy snacks throughout the school year.In our rural community, where options are few and far between, many of my students arrive at school hungry. This hunger can hinder their ability to concentrate and engage fully in their learning. The mid-morning hours, in particular, are a challenging time for them. By providing healthy snacks, your contribution has not only fueled their bodies but also their minds. The difference I've seen in their focus and energy levels since the start of this project has been remarkable. The smiles on their faces when they enjoy their snacks are priceless; it's a simple joy that makes a world of difference.Living and teaching in such a remote area has its challenges. I often find myself purchasing basic supplies out of my own pocket—everything from paper and pencils to snacks and prizes for our classroom. While I am deeply committed to my students and my role as an educator, the financial burden can be overwhelming. Thanks to your generosity, I've been able to allocate my resources more effectively, focusing on enriching their educational experience rather than just meeting basic needs. This year, I implemented a mini wellness program alongside our regular curriculum. We discuss the importance of healthy eating, and I've integrated lessons that connect nutrition to our daily activities. The snacks you've provided have become a vital part of this initiative, allowing students to practice making healthier choices while learning. They've not only nourished their bodies but have sparked conversations about health and wellness that will benefit them for years to come.Your support has also fostered a sense of community and care within our classroom. It has shown my students that they are valued and that their well-being is a priority. Some students have even taken it upon themselves to help organize the snack area, learning responsibility and teamwork in the process. These moments are invaluable, teaching them skills that extend beyond academics.I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. Your donation has not only filled their stomachs but also filled their hearts with the knowledge that there are people out there who believe in them and care about their futures. It is this belief that inspires them to strive for their best every day.As the school year progresses, I look forward to continuing this journey with my students. I am excited to see how they grow, learn, and thrive with the support of caring individuals like you. Your contribution has made a lasting impact that will resonate well beyond this school year.Thank you once again for your support. You have truly made a difference in the lives of my students, and for that, I am eternally grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1763498726954,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-for-learning-healthy-snacks-for-gr/9790967/","projectTitle":"Fuel for Learning: Healthy Snacks for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. VanDruff","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10200396_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758238451192","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10200396"},{"teacherId":8083005,"projectId":9633488,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your continuous support of Hydaburg schools! My students in grades PreK-5th grade loved the Koala breathing pal! It was a huge hit!! Before the start of each lesson, we go through a breathing exercise that helps students regulate their minds and bodies. The breathing pal is a fun way for them to visualize and practice their inhaling and exhaling. \r\n\r\nThe month of February is known as Random Acts of Kindness month. For classroom lessons this month I am able to use the rocks and acrylic markers for students to create - kindness \"rocks\" with uplifting messages and pictures to spread kindness that they can give away. For example, prior to Winter Break - the concept of Coping Skills was introduced using a winter snowman theme - \"Don't Have a meltdown - Use Your Coping Skills.\" Students identified their favorite coping skills. To reinforce learning, I was able to purchase - Coping Skills Bingo. What can be a difficult concept to teach, turned into exciting topics for students to learn. We had conducted an experiment to determine whether plants really needed water and sunlight to grow. We used small Ziplock baggies, some with wet and some with dry cotton balls and three bean seeds in each bag. They were awed to see the seeds that were placed in the baggies with wet cotton balls and placed in the sunlight sprout and grow to the rim of the baggies and bear dark green leaves. Similarly, the seeds with wet cotton balls that were placed in the dark cupboard sprouted long pale, whitish roots, but no green was found on them. Needless to say, the seeds with dry cotton balls did not sprout. My students were very excited to see the results from their experiment and they wanted to transplant the plant shoots from the baggies to the soil in jars. They were disappointed however, when the tender plants eventually withered and died as the cold, rainy season set in. However, with their new terrariums, they will have the opportunity to see plants thrive in soil regardless of the weather. They were super excited about this.\r\nMy students also had lots of fun placing the internal organs into the see-through human body model while they were learning about the human body in our last science unit. They were also able to view several body systems using the special viewer that came with the kit. This greatly enhanced their learning as we studied the skeletal, the muscular, the nervous, the circulatory, and the digestive systems.\r\nStudents also loved discovering the answers to questions about birds, insects, and animals by placing the question card into the device containing magnetic sand and having the answer revealed pictorially. We made use of the balance scale to prove that air is matter because it occupies space and has weight when we compared the weight of a blown up ballon to that of a deflated one.\r\nIn the near future, Grade 2 will begin the study of the solar system. The pop-up model of the planets in our galaxy, along with the science viewer with its visuals are sure to enhance the study of this unit. The hands-on model will ameliorate their learning of the names of the planets, their sizes, their distances from the sun and their relationship to the earth. The science viewer will help to seal pertinent and interesting facts into their memories by means of visual learning.\r\nAltogether, your giving to our project has made learning science so much fun for my class. My kids are so excited to be using the materials we got from your generous donations. We can't thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1759191191201,"projectUrl":"project/science-is-cool-making-science-come-al/9762362/","projectTitle":"Science Is Cool!
