Háw’aa – With a Heart Full of Gratitude My classroom is a small but special learning community in Hydaburg, Alaska, where my students come each day with curiosity, energy, and a love for discovering new things. They especially enjoy hands-on learning, exploring nature, science, reading, and creative activities. Every child brings something unique to our classroom, and I strive to make it a welcoming place where they feel valued, supported, and excited to learn. Since I began using DonorsChoose, our classroom has been blessed beyond what I could have imagined. Through the kindness and generosity of wonderful donors, I have been able to provide my students with learning materials, books, and supplies that I once purchased mostly out of my own pocket. Today, our classroom is better equipped, more engaging, and more conducive to learning, all because of people who believe in the importance of education and the potential of every child. One little story that always warms my heart shows just how much my students recognize your generosity. One morning, someone had placed a surprise box of Oreo cookies on my table. As we entered the classroom, I excitedly told my students, "Look! Someone left us a surprise!" Without hesitation, they all shouted together, "DONORSCHOOSE!" I couldn't help but smile and laugh. That morning, the surprise was actually from our wonderful paraprofessional! But their reaction touched my heart because it showed how deeply DonorsChoose has become part of our classroom experience. My students have come to recognize that so many of the wonderful things they enjoy in our classroom are made possible through the kindness of people they may never meet. I always remind my students that behind every donated item is a generous heart—someone who cares about them, believes in their dreams, and wants them to succeed. To all our generous donors, please know that your kindness reaches far beyond the materials you provide. You are helping create meaningful learning experiences, bringing excitement into our little classroom, and teaching my students the beautiful lesson of generosity and gratitude. From our small classroom in Hydaburg, Alaska, across the miles to wherever you may be, I extend my humble and heartfelt gratitude. Háw’aa!
