Thank you so much for your generous donation! With your support, I have been able to purchase engaging and relevant social and emotional learning curriculum that I use weekly, working with students in PreK-8th grades. My focus this year is helping students learn and use \"Coping Skills\" to manage their big feelings. \r\n\r\nThis project has allowed me to purchase amazing lessons plans that are hands-on, fun and creative, along with tailored classroom activities to enhance learning and reflection on the topic. For example, prior to Winter Break - the concept of Coping Skills was introduced using a winter snowman theme - \"Don't Have a meltdown - Use Your Coping Skills.\" Students identified their favorite coping skills. To reinforce learning, I was able to purchase - Coping Skills Bingo. What can be a difficult concept to teach, turned into exciting topics for students to learn. What I loved most is that students look forward to my SEL sessions this school year! A big thank you to you for helping make this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1760905307831,"projectUrl":"project/quality-engaging-social-and-emotional/9702109/","projectTitle":"Quality & Engaging Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lani","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8083005_orig.png?crop=368,368,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1632346925117","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8083005"},{"teacherId":2417932,"projectId":9793721,"letterContent":"My students thrive on place-based education. We had conducted an experiment to determine whether plants really needed water and sunlight to grow. We used small Ziplock baggies, some with wet and some with dry cotton balls and three bean seeds in each bag. They were awed to see the seeds that were placed in the baggies with wet cotton balls and placed in the sunlight sprout and grow to the rim of the baggies and bear dark green leaves. Similarly, the seeds with wet cotton balls that were placed in the dark cupboard sprouted long pale, whitish roots, but no green was found on them. Needless to say, the seeds with dry cotton balls did not sprout. My students were very excited to see the results from their experiment and they wanted to transplant the plant shoots from the baggies to the soil in jars. They were disappointed however, when the tender plants eventually withered and died as the cold, rainy season set in. However, with their new terrariums, they will have the opportunity to see plants thrive in soil regardless of the weather. They were super excited about this.\r\nMy students also had lots of fun placing the internal organs into the see-through human body model while they were learning about the human body in our last science unit. They were also able to view several body systems using the special viewer that came with the kit. This greatly enhanced their learning as we studied the skeletal, the muscular, the nervous, the circulatory, and the digestive systems.\r\nStudents also loved discovering the answers to questions about birds, insects, and animals by placing the question card into the device containing magnetic sand and having the answer revealed pictorially. We made use of the balance scale to prove that air is matter because it occupies space and has weight when we compared the weight of a blown up ballon to that of a deflated one.\r\nIn the near future, Grade 2 will begin the study of the solar system. The pop-up model of the planets in our galaxy, along with the science viewer with its visuals are sure to enhance the study of this unit. The hands-on model will ameliorate their learning of the names of the planets, their sizes, their distances from the sun and their relationship to the earth. The science viewer will help to seal pertinent and interesting facts into their memories by means of visual learning.\r\nAltogether, your giving to our project has made learning science so much fun for my class. My kids are so excited to be using the materials we got from your generous donations. We can't thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1759191191201,"projectUrl":"project/science-is-cool-making-science-come-al/9762362/","projectTitle":"Science Is Cool!
