I can't wait to have the students start working on these projects. We have just started working on some robots and we are all learning how to take deep breaths and try things again! It is having some unexpected secondary gains for the students and staff alike! The students are so engaged and focused that it has drawn in other teachers to see what is keeping their interest alive after a long day of learning!! The comments from the students are a mixture of frustration but great satisfaction as they work through the first activities! This makes my teacher heart so happy!!","fullyFundedDate":1757897391475,"projectUrl":"project/full-steam-ahead-with-quality-quill-prod/9653546/","projectTitle":"Full STEAM Ahead With Quality Quill Products","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rypkema","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7870285"},{"teacherId":7870285,"projectId":9346398,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your incredible generosity and support. The students had a fabulous time as we used the realia to show the salmon life cycle and found a local donor who provided salmon for dissection. What an incredible opportunity for our Alaskan students! The beading opportunities were fabulous, as well. We had a local donor provide Alaskan salmon leather to make beautiful earrings using the lovely beads. Finally, the wood workshop teacher \"punched out\" patterns for medicine bags. He punched them out of leather and felt. The beads and leather strips made this such a lovely project for the students! The students read all year with 2nd grade reading buddies. The little buddies colored a picture and the 5th graders used your generous donation to create a bear that the little buddy could put on a popsicle stick or a brown bag or who knows what else to continue enjoying the creation!\r\n\r\nThey also created thank you cards for their specialists and admin staff for helping them learn and grow all year! Unfortunately, I didn't think of snapping a picture of that & do regret it but the simple enjoyment and synergy in the room was fantastic!\r\n\r\nThe students saw the materials and were ecstatic! In fact I had several wanting to take them home! I told them they were intended for our projects but it made quite an impact! Thank you, again!! These are well-written, great books that have allowed us to increase our background knowledge and expand our reading horizons.\r\n\r\nThis was our first year with CKLA curriculum and with it came a need to fill gaps of background knowledge that the students did not receive in earlier years through this curriculum. Therefore, these books that were recommended by CKLA have helped immensely to provide a good amount of that background knowledge.\r\n\r\nBeyond building background knowledge and enjoying high quality books the students have been able to use these to read their way through the Iditarod trail challenge! For every minute read equates to miles toward Nome. So, if quality books weren't enough reason then the increased knowledge and enjoyment have sealed the deal! They were slightly confused followed by some elation when they saw the box arrive. They were confused because many of them had never seen such a device. Upon discovering the purpose there were some snickers and then some cheers with sighs of relief! It's always an adventure working with fifth graders--honestly! So, now, they look to see if the device is picking up the need to filter the air. One day, a boy burped near it and as the device turned red, I heard, \"well, looks like someone needs to brush their teeth!\" Ok, well, not what I expected but as I said, fifth grade is full of adventure! They were so excited when they saw the boxes arrive and helped unpack them with great enthusiasm!
