Genrefication of a library is a huge task, made easier with the right tools. Additionally, having the right tools made it easier for students to locate books and increased circulation. We checked out over 1,500 more books than last year.\r\n\r\nBecause we have such a large library, I decided to first use the bins in the \"everybody\" section. This section is commonly known as the picture book section and it's the first place where the youngest students learn to check out books. The new bins have allowed these students to find books of interest more easily than if they were shelved on the bookcases in the traditional manner (spine facing outwards). \r\n\r\nThe next step will involve purchasing more bins and then genre-fying the non-fiction portion of the library. Eventually, I'll continue this process with the books in the Spanish section. Thank you again for all of your support.","fullyFundedDate":1677097095972,"projectUrl":"project/amazing-library-book-bins/7188883/","projectTitle":"Amazing Library Book Bins","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Padilla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8960425_orig.jpg?crop=3017,3017,x143,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1676148046239","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8960425"},{"teacherId":3166500,"projectId":8524622,"letterContent":"Since receiving the bins and folders, my students have become motivated to keep their supplies and papers organized. They especially love to pull the folders out during math. They have to utilize these folders daily and often like choosing them when trying to gain privacy from other peers seeing their work. The bins are also accessed daily and are used to keep larger supply items, such as supply boxes and headphones, in a safe place. Most of the students in my class do not have a desk for storage so to have these bins for them has truly been helpful!\r\n\r\nTo present these sources, I surprised them one morning by labeling and putting bins in their cubbies. The folders were presented later and I made sure to note the handy math and language arts references they can use any time they need. Many of my students came without folders at the start of the year. This not only guaranteed that my students all have equal access to the same resources, but that the students who were unable to afford folders were able to have one, just like everyone else. \r\n\r\nI truly cannot thank you all enough for the support. At this time, my hope for future projects would have more to do with self management opportunities for my students as well as movement and additional support for these young, active learners.
