Currently, my students are using the new books and comfortable seating for a \"Book Club\" rotation. One specific moment that stands out was watching two of my more reluctant readers huddled together on the new rug, completely engrossed in a graphic novel and whispering excitedly about the illustrations. It was the first time this year I didn't have to nudge them to stay on task; the environment simply drew them in.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the reaction was pure magic. There were audible gasps and a few \"Is this really for us?\" questions as we unboxed the new titles and set up the cozy seating. One student even did a little \"happy dance\" when they saw a specific book series they had been asking for. The sheer excitement in the room was a powerful reminder of how much it means to students to know that people they've never met care about their education and comfort.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps involve a \"Reader's Response\" project where students will select their favorite book from the new collection to review and pitch to their classmates. We are also using these resources to build our daily stamina for independent reading. Because the students are now so comfortable and engaged, we've already been able to extend our silent reading time by ten minutes! Thank you for making this \"Love of Reading\" a reality in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1687791956971,"projectUrl":"project/the-reading-center-to-bring-the-love-of/7395812/","projectTitle":"The Reading Center to Bring the Love of Reading Again!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8836524_orig.jpg?crop=327,327,x0,y177&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1684767340600","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8836524"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16406","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":359,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":91,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":16406,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Carver Elementary & Arts Magnet School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Carver Elementary & Arts Magnet School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/montgomery-public-schools/carver-elementary-school/16406"}
