My students are dynamic young adults that cover the whole personality spectrum: they are energetic, silly, resilient, creative, intelligent and tougher than nails! 35% of my students speak Spanish as their first language, which always keeps class interesting! Music is a universal language which helps us cut down any language barriers on a daily basis. We can model how to play a particular excerpt of music or show a new skill, and the students learn so quickly! This orchestra program has had its struggles, but we are definitely back on the rise! If the community and administrators could just see how the students' faces light up when they learn a new song or master a challenging skill. They are care-free, truly joyful, and motivated to keep trying! They practice life skills in this class everyday including responsibility, reliability, determination and team-work.
