Davidson High School library. The previous table was wobbly and falling apart, and students rarely used it for playing. With our new table, students are once again able to enjoy chess. It also helps bring the space together aesthetically, creating a relaxing and fun environment for all of our students.\r\n\r\nThe DHS library is open to students from the moment they arrive at school until the dismissal bell. The new table was a delightful surprise to many students when they first saw it. Students enjoy playing chess—whether they are on the chess team or not—and they use the table most during lunch periods. We are very fortunate at Davidson to have students visit the library so often throughout the day, especially during lunch. This time allows them to relax and take a break from their academic activities. The table has been a wonderful addition for everyone, and we cannot thank you enough!","fullyFundedDate":1767575905349,"projectUrl":"project/strategic-minds-need-a-strategic-space/9956727/","projectTitle":"Strategic Minds Need a Strategic Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2878800_orig.jpg?crop=1186,1186,x0,y122&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1638976413124","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2878800"},{"teacherId":400998,"projectId":9955213,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation to my students' future. I designed this project to supplement my Precalculus curriculum. Initially, the only purpose was to give a practical application of exponential growth. After beginning the lesson, I saw how little that my students knew about how money works. Students learned and use terms like APY, APR, compounded interest, and depreciation. This was a huge improvement as several did not know how even interest worked on a loan. They calculated amortization tables and modified payments, giving them the skills to analyze their own finances now and in the future. \r\nI purchased and read the book The History of Money by David McWilliams. From that book, I learned the history of compounded interest and money in general which I was able to insert into several lessons. \r\nSeeing the impact it had on my IB class, I implemented a version in each of my other classes, impacting 90 instead of just 24. Your donation helped all of this happen. These young people now have the chance that most of us didn't have to take control of their financial lives early.","fullyFundedDate":1765644494096,"projectUrl":"project/resources-to-explore-exponential-growth/9955213/","projectTitle":"Resources to Explore Exponential Growth of Money in Spreadsheets","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Fletcher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mfletch3141"},{"teacherId":8896180,"projectId":9521954,"letterContent":"We are using the starter knife kits as both professional tools and instructional rewards tied to certification. Students earned their kits by completing coursework and passing the ServSafe Manager Certification Exam. One standout moment was watching students open their kits after learning they had passed—several immediately began talking about using them at home and in future culinary jobs, realizing they now owned tools that professionals use every day.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the knife kits, their reactions were a mix of excitement and pride. Many of them have never owned professional kitchen tools before, so receiving a kit felt like being welcomed into the culinary industry. It validated their hard work and showed them that their commitment to learning food safety and professionalism mattered. The kits transformed the certification exam from \"just a test\" into a meaningful career milestone.\r\n\r\nThis project directly supported student success: 7 students took the ServSafe Manager Exam, and 7 students passed. The next steps for my students include applying their ServSafe knowledge and new knife skills in advanced food labs that emphasize safety, precision, and workplace readiness. Students are now preparing for real-world culinary scenarios such as menu development, timed labs, and industry-style evaluations. With their certifications and tools in hand, they are building confidence, leadership skills, and a clearer vision of future careers in food service and hospitality.","fullyFundedDate":1762118354045,"projectUrl":"project/sharpening-success-knife-kits-for-servs/9521954/","projectTitle":"Sharpening Success: Knife Kits for ServSafe Certified Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Baxter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8896180_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x375,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753985481148","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8896180"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_11136","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1455,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":55,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":56.9,"schoolId":11136,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about W.P.
