One of the most loved parts of our classroom is the large black graffiti-style board you may have noticed in our classroom pictures. What may look like just a wall to some has become the heartbeat of our room. My students write encouraging messages, solve math problems, leave positive affirmations, celebrate accomplishments, and express themselves creatively on that board every single day. It has helped transform our classroom from simply a place where students attend math class into a space where they feel seen, valued, and connected.\r\n\r\nMy students were immediately excited when they saw the classroom updates and resources arrive. The energy in the room shifted almost instantly. Students who sometimes walk into math class guarded or anxious began interacting more, collaborating more, and showing pride in our classroom environment. The graffiti board especially has become a symbol of student voice and community. Some students use it to encourage classmates before quizzes, while others use it to showcase their work or simply leave positive messages behind for the next class period. It has created a culture where students feel comfortable participating and taking academic risks.\r\n\r\nRecently, students used the board during collaborative math stations where they worked through real-world algebra problems and explained their thinking to classmates. Even students who are usually quiet became more willing to participate because the board feels creative, interactive, and inviting instead of intimidating. Watching students rush into class asking, \"Can we use the board today?\" reminded me that learning environments matter just as much as lessons. Your generosity helped create a classroom atmosphere that students genuinely enjoy being part of, and for many of them, that feeling makes all the difference.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,\r\nMrs. Davis Cole","fullyFundedDate":1623501024287,"projectUrl":"project/a-chalkboard-4-you/5585688/","projectTitle":"A Chalkboard 4 You!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davis Cole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6580444_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778063034524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tygi-davis"},{"teacherId":6580444,"projectId":4771673,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom during flu season. Your donation of disinfecting wipes, Clorox products, and cleaning supplies made a bigger impact than you may ever realize. Shortly after the materials arrived, I became very sick with the flu myself and was out for an extended period of time. Not long after that, our school experienced additional disruptions related to COVID. Even during such a difficult and unexpected season, your generosity helped us maintain a cleaner and safer learning environment for our students and staff.\r\n\r\nWhen I returned to school, those supplies became essential in our daily classroom routine. Students used the wipes to clean desks, shared materials, and high-touch areas throughout the day. The supplies also helped me restore a sense of comfort and normalcy in the classroom after so much uncertainty. In a middle school environment where germs spread quickly, having access to these resources allowed us to focus more on learning and less on worrying about illness.\r\n\r\nYour kindness reminded my students that people outside of our school community truly care about their well-being and success. As a math teacher at Huffman Middle School, I work hard to create a classroom that feels safe, welcoming, and supportive, and your donation helped make that possible during a very challenging time. Please know that your generosity was deeply appreciated, even though my response was delayed. Thank you for extending grace, compassion, and support to my students and me.","fullyFundedDate":1581028494328,"projectUrl":"project/flu-season-is-here/4771673/","projectTitle":"Flu Season Is Here!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Davis Cole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6580444_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778063034524","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tygi-davis"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_13704","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":378,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":87,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"23.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":13704,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Huffman Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Huffman Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/birmingham-city-schools/huffman-middle-school/13704"}
