Many of these texts focus not only on literacy growth but also on mental health, resilience, identity, and emotional well-being. Students are finding stories that reflect their own experiences and emotions, which has helped create a classroom environment where reading feels personal, meaningful, and safe.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks different every day. Sometimes students sit quietly and become completely immersed in a story; other days, they excitedly recommend books to one another or discuss characters and themes that resonate with them. These new books have helped students strengthen critical reading skills such as analyzing theme, identifying symbolism, making inferences, and connecting literature to real-world experiences. Just as importantly, they are helping students build empathy, emotional awareness, and confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously reluctant readers have already begun reaching for books independently. One of the most rewarding moments as a teacher is watching a student realize there is a book that truly speaks to them. Some students have gravitated toward books dealing with anxiety, grief, or self-discovery, while others have simply found joy in reading for the first time in a long while. Your generosity has done far more than place books on shelves—it has helped create connection, comfort, and excitement for learning within our classroom. Because of your generous donation, these supplies helped me create a more supportive, engaging, and well-equipped learning environment for my students. The laminator, glue sticks, scissors, and pencils allowed me to design durable, reusable instructional materials that support daily learning—everything from anchor charts to interactive activities that can be used again and again. Having reliable classroom tools also ensures students always have access to what they need to participate fully, removing barriers that might otherwise limit their success.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, many of these items directly support students' well-being and comfort. Access to tissues, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and feminine hygiene products helps create a classroom space where students feel safe, respected, and cared for. These essentials are often overlooked but can make a huge difference in a student's ability to focus and stay present throughout the day. When students know their basic needs are met without embarrassment or stress, they are more confident and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nFinally, the snacks and small treats play an important role in building a positive classroom culture. For many students, a quick snack can help them refocus, especially during long school days or when they come to class hungry. These items also allow me to celebrate student effort, reward growth, and build relationships in meaningful ways. Altogether, this project supports not just academic achievement, but the whole child, helping create a classroom environment where students feel prepared, valued, and motivated to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1768852271437,"projectUrl":"project/new-supplies-for-the-classroom/9771419/","projectTitle":"New Supplies for the Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7062405_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726238242169","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msjillbailey"},{"teacherId":7062405,"projectId":9764780,"letterContent":"I'm writing to express my deepest gratitude for your incredible gift: a brand-new class set of \"The Great Gatsby.\" As fellow book lovers, you understand the joy of holding a pristine copy, and this donation has revitalized our reading experience in ways I couldn't have imagined. Our previous copies were quite literally falling apart, hindering our ability to fully immerse ourselves in Fitzgerald's masterpiece. Now, with these beautiful new books, we can delve into the nuances of the Roaring Twenties without the distraction of crumbling pages. The arrival of these books has allowed us to focus on key skills, such as analyzing Fitzgerald's masterful use of symbolism and exploring the themes of wealth, class, and the American Dream. We're also delving into the historical context of the novel, examining the social and cultural forces that shaped the era.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading \"The Great Gatsby\" has become a vibrant and interactive experience. We engage in lively discussions, dissecting the characters' motivations and debating the novel's enduring relevance. Students are encouraged to connect the themes of the book to contemporary issues, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the world around them. We also use creative activities like writing prompts and character analysis essays to bring the story to life.\r\n\r\nI've noticed a remarkable transformation in my students' engagement since we received the new books. Several students who were previously hesitant to participate are now eagerly contributing to class discussions, drawn in by the allure of a fresh, engaging text. One student, in particular, has shown a newfound enthusiasm for reading, captivated by the tragic tale of Jay Gatsby and the glittering world he inhabits. We just left the elementary school, and while we are tired, we are so happy, but not as happy as the elementary students we just served. They literally jumped up and down and gave hugs all around as our program wrapped up. There were so many highlights, it is hard to know where to begin and which to share.\r\n\r\nIt started sometime in November at the high school, with my students sorting items for each group of students, creating individual bags of crafts, and planning games. Yesterday cookies were baked, icing made, and my car loaded up. Today, it was off to the elementary school for a day of crafts, games, cookie decorating, and so much more.\r\n\r\nIn the kindergarten room, we started with hello's all around, followed by our first craft, making a snowman out of air-dry clay. I've never seen such a motley group of snowmen–some were short, some were tall. Some were skinny, some were fat. Some had heads bigger than their bodies, and some appeared to be melting. At least one looked just like a penguin. Students named their snowmen (Frosty was popular), then we placed them on a shelf to dry overnight, and it was on to the next activity, Christmas Bingo. Just as our first round was getting started, we had some unexpected excitement: The water line in the attached bathroom burst, and water began spraying. Within minutes, water was pouring out the bathroom door and under the desks, with excited children jumping onto their chairs to keep their feet out of the water. By the time the water was turned off and the floors dried, the bingo cards were scattered, so we started anew. Students really enjoyed yelling \"BINGO!\" with great enthusiasm, and even more, digging into the prize box. We played until every child won at least once. More activities followed, with cookie decorating being a fan favorite. \r\n\r\nIn first grade, the routine was similar, although we started with making a beaded snowman ornament, then BINGO and other games, making more air-dry snowmen, and cookie decorating. This group took great pride in their crafts, showing more attention to detail and precision. One student finished up quickly and became a great helper to students who were struggling: some had a hard time threading the string through their beads, but they persevered. They showed the same determination and attention in creating their cookies, taking time to place their candy sprinkles just so. What took quiet a while to decorate was mostly gobbled up in a minute! \r\n\r\nEach group received many goodies, thanks to you. All of them received a drawstring backpack, and they filled it with balls of slime, fidget spinner robots, slap and stretch bracelets, pull-back cars, Christmas tattoos, punch balloons, and so much more. Most ate their cookies right away, but a few took them home. By the end of the day, we were tired, they were tired, but all were happy. We packed up and left amid many sticky hugs and a chorus of \"Thank you, Merry Christmas!\" \r\n\r\nYou, my Donors Choose friends, made this possible, and I thank you so very much. You've given so generously, made so much possible. Greatest of all is the joy had by all, and that, my friends, is priceless.
