The large rug has quickly become the heart of our classroom — it's where we gather for read-alouds, lessons, and special moments together.\r\n\r\nThe small, fluffy rug found its perfect home in our Zen Zone calm-down corner, giving students a soft, comforting place to take a breather or work quietly on their Chromebooks. The floor cushions have also been a huge hit during independent reading and center time. They've helped create cozy nooks in our classroom library where students can curl up with a good book and truly enjoy reading.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped transform our classroom into a more welcoming and peaceful space, and it's made such a difference in how my students learn and connect each day. When the flexible seating arrived, my students were overjoyed. One even shouted, \"This is the best day ever!\" From that moment on, the new chairs and bean bags have become the heart of our room. Every morning, the kids rush to find their favorite spot, and it sets such a calm and happy tone for the day. Whole group time feels more connected, and you can truly see the joy on their faces when they are settled in.\r\n\r\nThese pieces have brought so much more than just comfort. They have brought excitement and a sense of ownership to our space. The kids treat the furniture with care and look forward to using it every single day. You did not just donate materials. You helped create a classroom environment that feels warm, welcoming, and full of joy. Thank you for making such a meaningful difference.","fullyFundedDate":1738969582940,"projectUrl":"project/space-to-learn-a-place-to-shine/9099232/","projectTitle":"Space to Learn, a Place to Shine!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McClenon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9916558_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738724596397","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mcclenon"},{"teacherId":9596813,"projectId":8503253,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contributions to our Pre-K 4 classroom! Their lives are truly enriched using the materials you donated towards. These kids learn by doing things hands on, so these manipulatives help them learn math concepts like positional words, sorting attributes, number identification and 1-1 correspondence. Seemingly simple things like markers and tape are all are fundamental to their learning experience and are used across all disciplines whether it be science, math, language arts, fine art, or social studies. \r\n\r\nThe students especially love the kinetic sand. One project they did with it was putting frog counters on top/behind/ in front of etc. blocks in the sand. The sensory activity is multidisciplinary with math skills, fine motor, and science skills (they were also learning about senses and describing textures). \r\n\r\nThey have used the pom poms in imaginative play during our Pets unit to feed the animals water, food, and medicine. They also used one of the math folders to \"feed the dog dog bones\" which developed their 1-1 math skills and number identification. Having a variety of materials keeps them engaged and excited to learn. \r\n\r\nCurrently, they are learning about winter holidays and cold weather. This theme explores science (weather) and social studies (cultural holidays) . We use the sparkly scatter and gems to count \"snowflakes\" and decorate trees. The tree decorating helps with pincer grip necessary for writing. It also supports math skills such as organizing, sorting, and counting. Of course, it helps their creative/fine art skills which is so important to Pre-K's critical thinking and development!\r\n\r\nThey get so excited when they see a new item in the classroom and they often thank me for giving it to them, despite their young age. I tell them we had kind people helping us and the community, and how important it is for us to be kind to color the world with love. I want to extend that thanks to you and say truly, you are making a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1723679049076,"projectUrl":"project/ms-shoopmans-pre-k-classroom-supplies/8503253/","projectTitle":"Ms. Shoopman's Pre-K Classroom Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shoopman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9596813"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17634","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":87,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.5,"schoolId":17634,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Widen Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Widen Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/austin-independent-school-district/widen-elementary-school/17634"}
