They are more than granola bars, crackers, and fruit snacks — they are comfort, regulation, and dignity. When a student whispers, \"Can I have something? I didn't eat breakfast,\" I can now say yes without hesitation. There is no clipboard, no shame, no complicated process. Just care.\r\n\r\nIn a fourth-grade classroom, so much growth happens in small moments. A student who struggles to regulate emotions is far more successful after a quick snack break. A child who came in late and missed breakfast can now participate in small group instruction without shutting down. A student working through challenging text can persist just a little longer because their basic needs are met. \r\nFor some of my students, school is the most stable place in their lives. Being able to provide snacks helps reinforce that stability. It communicates something powerful: you are cared for here. Your needs matter here. You do not have to earn basic kindness.\r\nAcademically, I have already seen an increase in stamina during independent work time. Students are more focused during our reading blocks and less likely to disengage during longer lessons. Even transitions feel smoother because fewer students are dysregulated due to hunger.\r\nPersonally, this project has lifted a weight from me as a teacher. I no longer have to quietly buy snacks out of pocket and hope they stretch far enough. Instead, I get to partner with a community of donors who believe — just as I do — that small acts of generosity can create meaningful change.\r\nYour donation did not just fill a snack bin. It filled gaps. It supported concentration, confidence, and community. It reminded my students that there are people beyond our classroom walls who care about their well-being. \r\nThank you for helping us build a classroom where students can focus on learning, growing, and being children — without worrying about whether they are hungry. Your kindness is felt here every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1763498189244,"projectUrl":"project/brain-food-for-brilliant-fourth-grade/9788243/","projectTitle":"Brain Food for Brilliant Fourth Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9709486_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1786738632890","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9709486"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_120790","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":611,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":41,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":82.0,"schoolId":120790,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Whitman Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Whitman Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/michigan/pontiac-city-school-district/whitman-elementary/120790"}
