One of my third-grade students, who struggles with both Language Arts and Math, became especially interested in learning how to solve the cube. As he began learning and remembering different algorithms, I noticed a change in his confidence. He was proud of what he could accomplish, and that confidence began carrying over into the classroom. He became more attentive during Language Arts and Math lessons and more willing to challenge himself academically.\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\n\r\nThe students were extremely excited! The enthusiasm quickly spread beyond my classroom, and students from different classes became eager to sign up for our \"Rubik's Cube Club.\" They were fascinated by the idea of learning how to solve something that initially seemed so difficult. As they learned new algorithms and completed different stages of the cube, they felt proud of themselves and excited to share their accomplishments with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students?\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building our Rubik's Cube Club and help students learn additional algorithms and strategies until they can independently solve the entire cube. We also want students who become more experienced to help teach other members of the club. Most importantly, we hope to continue using this experience to build confidence, perseverance, concentration, and problem-solving skills. For some of our students, learning to solve a Rubik's Cube has shown them that they are capable of accomplishing difficult things. We hope they carry that same confidence and determination into their Language Arts, Math, and other academic learning.\r\n\r\nThank you to our donors for making these experiences possible and for giving our students another opportunity to discover what they are capable of achieving!","fullyFundedDate":1778166737595,"projectUrl":"project/rubiks-club/10070641/","projectTitle":"Rubik’s Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10422529_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769663067108","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10422529"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32586","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":322,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":97,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.9,"schoolId":32586,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/coachella-valley-unified-school-district/westside-elementary-school/32586"}
