During independent/small group instruction, students are allowed to pick an area where they can work independently and feel comfortable as you complete their work. This also helps them not feel so confined to the desk work area. Many students enjoy the sections around the room that they can find and relax as they learn, read, or work in groups. Ones I looked up from my table and saw several students gathering pillows and making their own flexible work space. By having other options to work and learn, my students will feel more at home and allow the learning to flow.
