I can now teach a single story to a classroom of diverse learners, meeting individual IEP goals ranging from basic color identification to complex narrative recall all at once. The students have used this area as a special place to cozy up with their favorite books. The sensory stuffed animals have helped the students both in and out of the classroom giving them something to hug to help them feel more secure and calm. The sloth has received so many hugs and has been named smiley by the students because he always brings a smile to their face. The visual timer has assisted tremendously in our classroom for the students creating a visual for the students when they made need a minute to calm down before expressing themself or joining the class. \r\nThe next step in our classroom is to continue to build upon reading and listening skills. We would like to add more books and puppets to continue to engage the students to increase their love for learning. From using the slant boards to assist with our writing, the triangular markers to assist with our grasp, tweezers to pick up pom-poms, to threading beads, to creating patterns with snap cubes, every activity is hands-on, engaging, and full of learning.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching a student who used to avoid fine motor tasks proudly complete a tracing activity all on their own. Their smile said it all! These materials have turned what used to be challenging activities into moments of joy and confidence for my students. \r\n\r\nWe'll continue to use these fine motor tools as part of our daily routine, building the skills that support writing, cutting, and self-help tasks like buttoning and zipping.
