By using tactile props to \"feed\" the characters, my students have mastered difficult concepts like chronological sequencing and cause-and-effect. The repetitive, rhythmic nature of these stories has also provided a vital scaffold for my students with speech delays, allowing them to gain the confidence to join in on refrains and practice predictive language in a way that feels like play rather than a lesson.\r\n\r\nAs an educator, these materials have allowed me to provide a much higher level of differentiated instruction. I can now teach a single story to a classroom of diverse learners, meeting individual IEP goals ranging from basic color identification to complex narrative recall all at once. Because these books are so engaging and hands-on, I have seen a noticeable decrease in frustration-based behaviors and a significant increase in instructional time. Your gift has allowed me to bridge the gap between abstract concepts and concrete understanding for every child in my room.\r\n\r\nI want to extend a huge \"Thank You\" from the bottom of my heart! Your support has brought a new level of excitement to our daily reading time, and seeing my students' faces light up as they interact with these stories is the highlight of my day. To me, these aren't just teaching tools; they're a bridge to those \"aha!\" moments where a child first realizes they can navigate a story on their own. I've always survived on the belief that literacy should be something kids can touch and feel, and the hands-on pieces are the real game-changers here. Watching a student's small hands grasp a tactile animal figure while reciting the rhythmic lines makes the narrative come alive in a way a flat page never could; it turns a sequence of words into a physical puzzle they can solve. It's incredibly rewarding to see my students' faces light up as they physically move the \"Blue Horse\" or \"Yellow Duck\" into place, building a sense of pride and ownership over their learning. For my K-2 learners, these manipulatives turned our reading corner into a space of genuine discovery, reminding me exactly why I love teaching the fundamentals. By providing individual copies of each book my students can now practice \"finger-tracking\" and independent reading, while the accompanying storytelling kit allows them to physically sequence the narrative and \"feed\" the characters, which is vital for cognitive development and memory retention. The \"Old Lady\" series adds a wonderful sense of rhythm and humor, helping my students build essential phonological awareness through repetitive, rhyming text. This collection has turned our reading center into a high-engagement hub where literacy is no longer just a task, but a favorite daily highlight; I love that my students truly love to read and adore spending time in their library corner. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosit","fullyFundedDate":1772563731923,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-get-swallowed-up-with-reading/9982472/","projectTitle":"Help Us Get Swallowed Up With Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rutledge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10307601_orig.png?crop=675,675,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769786349972","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10307601"},{"teacherId":10307601,"projectId":9814703,"letterContent":"I wanted to make a moment to thank you or making such a tremendous difference in my classroom. The environment you have created for my students has created a feeling of comfort for both my students and has made our classroom a warm place for learning as we grow. The students were so incredibly excited about the new sensory items for our classroom. The sensory light has been the most exciting and chosen spot in our room. The students have used this area as a special place to cozy up with their favorite books. The sensory stuffed animals have helped the students both in and out of the classroom giving them something to hug to help them feel more secure and calm. The sloth has received so many hugs and has been named smiley by the students because he always brings a smile to their face. The visual timer has assisted tremendously in our classroom for the students creating a visual for the students when they made need a minute to calm down before expressing themself or joining the class. \r\nThe next step in our classroom is to continue to build upon reading and listening skills. We would like to add more books and puppets to continue to engage the students to increase their love for learning.
