Our school is made up of a large population that is both rural and under the poverty line, so they don't always have the self esteem or self worth that other students their age in other areas may have. We also have a population of students who have trouble self-regulating. With these donations, you have made my job easier to be an aide to them and help them out with their needs. \r\n\r\nAfter reading, The Magical Yet, we had a lesson about not giving up on yourself and finding ways to see the possibilities life has to offer no matter what your circumstances are. All things are possible, and that's the stuff that goals and dreams are made of. This was especially helpful to my third graders who are sort of in that in between stage of life. They absolutely loved the book and the craft we did afterwards! So thank you for that book series. I had the bin of other books in the series on top of a shelf in my Media Center, and I am waiting to see a book in there for more than a few days before another student checks it out. \r\n\r\nMy little ones really love the color changing puppy- they get almost mesmerized watching the colors change and they soon forget about what they were angry about in the first place. They also love the water tubes that have the different materials in them like the glitter (that's the favorite one I think), the sequins, and the colored liquid. I refer to them as the wonder tubes for a few reasons: they make you wonder how they work, I wonder how it helps them calm down so much, and we all wonder how they are made. The name, wonder tubes, has caught on. \r\n\r\nI really do appreciate your generosity in giving these books and materials to our Media Center. The help they have had on our students is so wonderful! Your donations have impacted our school media center, which in turn, impacts our students, more than words can say. In today's world, it is often hard to find titles that will grab the attention of middle schoolers, but with your generosity, we were able to do just that.\r\n\r\nWe now have middle school students that get excited about coming into the Media Center to look for books that entice their curiosity. Word of mouth gets around fast in our school because we now have had to put many of the books you donated on hold as they have become very popular here. It is so wonderful to see middle schoolers reading again- and it is all with your help that we were able to make this a reality. \r\n\r\nSome of the favorite books being checked out or put on hold are those by Jennifer Nielsen. I was worried that only girls would want to check out these books, but happily I was wrong. Many of the boys are also checking out these great books. \r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart in helping to make reading fun again, interesting again, worthwhile again. Not only are these titles that you have donated being checked out, but other titles that I have pulled from the shelves that are similar to these are also being checked out and enjoyed once again.\r\n\r\n I thought our small Media Center would never again see the likes of middle schoolers again. We have been coming up with ideas by reading some of the books you donated and have just started learning about the writing process. We love reading on the comfy couches or on the floor with a pillow or even at our desks. On Flashlight Fridays we get under our desks and read with a flashlight while laying on a blanket. It's so much fun! What makes it even better is that we get to read from a new book- one that you have generously donated. \r\n\r\nWe are so grateful to you for all of the resources you have so graciously given us. Our story outlines are taking place and we will begin writing our rough drafts soon. Writing is a lot of work, but the tools you have given us have made it that much easier to write our stories. Once our stories are complete, then we can go back and paint or draw or illustrate our stories with the supplies you gave us. Students love to see that they, not only are remembering facts, but know the concepts behind multiplication.\r\n\r\nStudents have also found ways to have friendly competitions using the Multiplication by Heart sets. They are having fun working with each other as they try continually work to improve fluency and memorization. \r\n\r\nMastering multiplication is having an impact on their confidence and their ability to understand fractions. I am so grateful for donors like you who give without wanting anything in return, except for maybe to hear how truly wonderful their gifts have impacted the students. \r\n\r\nHere at our school, we have a student population from preschool through eight grade. All of them have benefited tremendously from your selfless gifts. Our preschoolers cannot contain their joy when I break out the \"bug cubes\" as they call them. Kindergarten loves to look at all of the different creatures under the magnifying glasses. Our first graders like to sort the bugs into categories only to have the second graders come in and reorganize them according to what they deem as correct. All the way up through the ranks, the students really enjoy looking at a bug \"that isn't going to get away from them,\" as one of my fourth graders said. Even the middle schoolers have had fun exploring the bugs. Great conversations have come out of these cubed bugs- who has seen one like this one or who has stomped on one like that one or look how pretty this one is...and the list goes on. \r\n\r\nThank you again for all of your giving ways that have already brought so much joy into our Media Center. Who would have thought bugs could bring so many smiles into the Media Center? Not me. The students are allowed to rotate between centers made up of learning toys that also help develop their minds in areas technology doesn't. They have been excited to know that they can learn the multiplication facts.\r\n\r\nBy fifth grade, it is a huge frustration to not know multiplication facts. When our project materials arrived, I explained to my students how to use these materials and told them that they would have their own Multiplication by Heart box to help them keep up with their progress. They were so excited to see a product that actually helped them to understand multiplication.\r\n\r\nThis has been a game changer. Getting better with multiplication facts and moving on to mastery has helped my students to better learn fraction work...which is big in fifth grade.
