While some supplies may seem insignificant, you realize just how important they are when trying to accomplish meaningful tasks in class. My primary goal for this year is to help my students learn to love reading by emphasizing the benefits that come with a love of books. I want my students to understand that reading can be both fun and relaxing. Every single day in class, I provide time for students to read books that they choose for themselves. I tell them to get as comfortable as they'd like and just enjoy the quiet time with their book. I can already see a difference after just a few weeks of school; however, I was only able to afford a few comfortable pieces of furniture for the students to use. This project would help me purchase a few more things to help emphasize my point about the relaxation benefit of reading. These reading pillows will serve students in my classroom for years to come. The other supplies in this project are even more practical than the pillows and is simply a need. Because of the position of my classroom and the updating of technologies, students have a very difficult time seeing the SMART Board in my room. If the overhead lights are on in the classroom, they cannot see it at all, and if they are turned off, they can't see anything else. If we open the blinds, the entire SMART Board is covered in a glare. This has been very difficult to deal with. With just a couple of alternative light sources, we could fix this problem in our room. It would also help for much better lighting during reading time - yet another step closer to showing students how enjoyable time spent with a book can be!
