When we were deciding on a new book to teach in 7th grade, I knew this one would be a hit. You can imagine how disappointed I was to learn that we didn't have enough books for this unit; however, you did not let that stop us.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students were able to explore dystopian worlds, grow in empathy, and learn how embracing differences makes us stronger. They interviewed their favorite people, and I heard the most wonderful stories about grandmothers, dads, and other loved ones.\r\n\r\nOne of their favorite activities was being assigned a job from the novel. Even when students didn't receive the job they wanted, it led to meaningful conversations about how blessed we are to live in a country where we can choose our own paths and shape our own futures.\r\n\r\nThank you for these books. Kids love to choose from a huge bucket of colors. Before I had this project funded, students had to try to mix paints to get colors, and we were wasting a ton of paint that we don't have funds to replace. The bottle sizes are perfect because students use less paint, too. All of my grades are using these paints. In 8th grade, we painted records, in 7th grade, we painted a parody of the Great Wave, and in 6th grade, students used the paint to make Agamographs.
