When the students came in and saw the tables rearranged differently with the materials set up at the center of their desks, they were ecstatic! The students listened attentively to instructions and used the hole punchers, syringes, and lamps with care and intention. Since we had enough materials, the groups were able to set up their experiment and change variables, like presence of sunlight, + or - baking soda, and come up with a few other variables like light color to test the ability or effectiveness of photosynthesis to occur under diverse conditions.
