The students were especially happy to have a variety of brushes to work with, and we put them to use right away.\r\nWe began by learning about the color wheel and how to mix colors. From there, students practiced different painting techniques before creating their first painting.\r\n\r\nStudents chose to paint landscapes or use the theme of a bootmaker as their subject matter. I provided photographs for students to work from, which helped guide their compositions. We also created viewfinders so the artists could focus on a selected portion of the photograph as they worked. For some students, this was their very first painting experience, and they learned how to mix values with paint to create a three-dimensional effect. Other students were able to build on their existing skills and refine techniques to achieve a more realistic result.\r\n\r\nOverall, the students did an excellent job and gained a deeper understanding of what it means to create art.
