I am so lucky that you chose to donate to my project and provide incredible non-fiction novel reading materials for my students. I love to teach using novels and now with these books, teaching the non-fiction standards makes it a little easier! This particular novel was about surviving during the California Wildfires. This novel opened up opportunities to talk about natural disasters, ways to help, and ways people who live there have to survive through it/ after the devastation. It brought up great conversation and demonstrated to students how some people deal with natural disaster issues that we don't necessarily deal with where we live. I was able to incorporate main idea, how to infer with evidence, and use a piece of text where my students were engaged in the reading. It was amazing to see my students and their worlds come alive. They had their brains ignited with excitement for reading!
