The organizational items—such as storage bins, shelving units, and desk organizers—helped create a more structured and efficient classroom environment. With everything neatly in its place, students were able to focus better, transition more smoothly between activities, and take greater responsibility for their materials. This sense of order reduced stress and distractions, allowing us to maximize instructional time and maintain a calm, welcoming atmosphere for everyone.\r\n\r\nEqually transformative were the sensory tools and objects that were donated. Items like fidget tools, sensory cushions, calming jars, and tactile materials supported students' emotional regulation and concentration throughout the day. These tools were especially beneficial for students with sensory needs, helping them stay engaged, feel safe, and participate more fully in classroom activities. The combination of an organized space and accessible sensory supports truly elevated our learning environment, empowering students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. To recap our class project, \"Stamping Aloha: Exploring Hawaiian Art Through Print\", students experienced Hawaiian through plant material stamping. The students were all given a kīhei (traditional Hawaiian garment/shawl) using the muslin material that was dyed with ʻōlena (turmeric). The students then used the paints, painting tools, and Hawaiian plants to create a stamped design on their kīhei that represents who they are and their connection to Hawaiʻi and the Hawaiian culture.\r\n The students were ecstatic to be able to use new tools and materials to create something of their own that represents who they are. My students are very creative and love any type of art, especially those with paint. For most of them, it was the first time that they had dyed material, and it was interesting for them to see the way that the dye changed the color of the muslin material. ʻŌlena is a very fragrant plant, and while the kīhei were soaking in the dye, they were saying how good the dye smelt. One of my students mentioned that now anytime they smell ʻōlena, they will be reminded of this day were they got to make their kīhei. With these kīhei that they were able to make with your generous donation, the students will be showcasing their stamped kīhei to their parents at the end of the school year, in our end of year hōʻike (project presentations).
