Providing students with choices in their reading has been shown time and again to increase students' engagement and performance. Students are able to select a book that is not only at their level, but is high interest. By 6th grade, student reading levels and interests vary so much that it is difficult to find a single text that relates to each student in the class.\r\n\r\nThe books from this project filled a few gaps in our library. One of the best ways to get a student reading is by finding them a series to read, as it provides them with several books to read just by finding one that they enjoy. Many of the most loved series in our library were missing books or had fallen into disrepair from years of use. However, one constant is that, when used effectively, technology can greatly increase student achievement. We've also been able to complete some social-emotional learning activities that involve creativity, which students have both really enjoyed and benefited from as they learn to interact with each other positively in middle school.\r\n\r\nNational History Day has been our major focus in class, with all seventh graders working on individual research projects.
