One moment that really stood out was during our first practice with the new starting blocks—several athletes were genuinely excited because, for the first time, they didn't have to borrow blocks from our high school team. They immediately began setting them up, adjusting the foot plates, and running multiple starts to fine-tune their technique. Their excitement and pride were undeniable. Having reliable equipment on our own campus has allowed students to focus on honing their skills and building confidence rather than worrying about availability or sharing limited resources. As we move forward, our next steps include using this equipment to prepare for the upcoming season, continue improving block starts, and incorporate more structured sprint-technique drills. My students and I use these resources constantly—each center now has its own clearly labeled space, making it easy for students to find what they need and transition quickly without wasting any learning time. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students move through all four centers smoothly in a single period—grabbing their materials from the new bins, rotating to the next station, and resetting the space for the next group without me having to prompt them. Their independence has grown tremendously. When students first saw the materials, they were excited that everything had a place; several even commented that it \"finally feels like a real learning lab.\" The improved organization has also made collaboration easier, especially during skill-based activities where students need manipulatives, task cards, or journals ready to go. Looking ahead, my class is beginning a new round of reading and math intervention centers where students will apply skills like citing evidence, solving rational number problems, and practicing vocabulary strategies. Thanks to your support, the materials you provided will continue helping students transition efficiently, stay organized, and fully engage in every center throughout the day. The real-world applications presented in each issue help students see the value and purpose of mathematical thinking beyond the textbook. Articles that connect math to sports, pop culture, technology, and current events capture students' interest and make abstract concepts more concrete. As a result, students are more motivated to participate in discussions and problem-solving activities, and they're more willing to take academic risks in math.\r\n\r\nThe magazine also supports critical thinking and mathematical reasoning, which are essential skills in seminar-style learning environments. The problems and prompts encourage students to analyze, justify, and explain their thinking in both written and verbal form. This has helped foster deeper conversations around math concepts and has improved students' ability to communicate their reasoning—a key goal of our seminar classes. Additionally, the built-in scaffolding and variety of difficulty levels allow me to differentiate instruction effectively, ensuring that all students, regardless of their skill level, are challenged and supported. Overall, Scholastic Math Magazine has become a vital tool in creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to explore and enjoy math.","fullyFundedDate":1744743517029,"projectUrl":"project/math-matters-building-strong-foundation/9139553/","projectTitle":"Math Matters: Building Strong Foundations in Math Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Torres","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9844995_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739816779408","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9844995"},{"teacherId":9844995,"projectId":8959546,"letterContent":"I wanted to take a moment to share the profound impact Scholastic Magazines have had on my low-achieving students. The high-interest topics and visually rich layouts draw in even the most reluctant readers, helping them feel more confident and capable. For many of my students, reading Scholastic has been the turning point that made reading feel enjoyable and accessible, rather than frustrating or overwhelming.\r\n\r\nIn addition to fostering literacy, Scholastic Magazines support cross-curricular learning with their integration of science, social studies, and current events. My students are not only reading more, but they're asking questions, participating in discussions, and showing a deeper interest in the world around them. The built-in supports like vocabulary previews, comprehension questions, and online features have made differentiation easier and more effective.
